Design Objective:
Create a postage stamp commemorating The Lunar New Year for an audience encompassing all Americans, including residents of all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and other territories. The design system should demonstrate how it will be adapted for the entire Lunar New Year cycle, covering all the animals in the cycle.
I chose to illustrate the animals using a textured red paper style, which evokes the character and charm of traditional Chinese papercraft. I chose geometric stylization of the animals combined with the paper textures to create an identity system that would accommodate the entire 12 animal series. The style lends itself to a handle quality and alludes to care and craft, as well as allowing. for pattern tiling for a full visual suite of Lunar New Year cycle illustrations of animals.
